Bio decontamination Ltd dry vapour VHP decontamination system has proven advantages over other H2O2 better known systems. Because of its flexibility and quick deployment time “BDL’s” system has been used in various Health Care related situations. Listed below are two brief case studies of diverse circumstances as testament to Bio decontamination Ltd dry vapour VHP effectiveness.

1. Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust

In January 2008 the health authority was experiencing outbreaks of Norwalk Virus (Nor virus) in a number of their hospital wards and “BDL” were engaged to use its Dry Vapour System. The contract raised a number of issues that had to be addressed in order for the process to be successful.
The wards were:-

• Occupied
• Long stay with routines (meal times, cleaning, physiotherapy, visiting etc) that had to be maintained
• Made up of multiple rooms, connected by air ducting and roof voids
• Closed to new patients but would be opened at the end of our service due to bed occupation shortage

“BDL” worked closely with Infection control, specialist cleaning unit, the ward sisters and the facilities department and agreed a strategy for the bio-decon work.
The decontamination incorporated not only the wards, but sluice rooms, kitchens, toilets, rest rooms, all electrical items, medical equipment, bedding, soft furnishings, and anything else that was deemed to be in need of decontamination was included in the process.
Real time monitoring using wireless temperature and humidity sensors PLUS biological indicators (BI’s) validated the process and verification tests carried out by the NHS Trust corroborated this.

“BDL” have subsequently carried out several ward decontaminations and are now part of an overall ward decontamination strategy been developed by the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
Statement from the Hospital:-

“We have used Bio Decontamination Ltd on a number of occasions for VHP treatment.  On each occasion the work was conducted in a professional manner with minimal disruption to the hospital environment.  Feedback from the ward staff was excellent - stating the staff were courteous and undertook the task in an efficient manner bearing in mind the sensitivity of the environment.”

2. Eli Lilly Limited

“BDL” was involved in the pre occupational decontamination of a new 102 room, 5000m³ facility.  Listening to the customer needs and working closely with them “BDL” carried out the procedure over a weekend.  The customer ideally wanted to end work in its existing facility on a Friday and commence work in the new facility on the Monday.  “BDL” developed a strategy that met the criteria and, because of the nature of the customer business, worked to a 7 day notification period.

Because of unforeseen circumstances, the customer changed the transfer and it was to be carried out over 2 separate weekends. ”BDL” responded by modifying the strategy and reported to site on the Saturday of the first weekend at 08.30, with a small team of technicians.  It set up the equipment, prepared the facility for the procedure, carried out the VHP decontamination, dismantled the equipment and removed all debris generated by the process and left the site at 15.00. This was repeated 3 weeks later, the only difference been the process took a little longer and the site was vacated by “BDL” at 17.00.

“BDL” validated and monitored the VHP bio decontamination process in real-time throughout both weekends and all the biological indicators (BI’s) returned negative growth.
